About Socketlist
Socketlist is an independent, non-commercial directory of open-source Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers. It is run by a small anonymous team and is not affiliated with Anthropic, the MCP project or any listed vendor. Nobody pays to be listed or ranked.
Where the data comes from
- The GitHub search API for repositories tagged
mcp-server(the top repositories by stars, plus anything created in the last 7 days with at least 3 stars). - The reference servers in the official modelcontextprotocol/servers README.
- Each repository’s own README, for install configs (96 servers) and feature/tool summaries (488 servers).
How servers are filtered
A repository is listed only if its name or description mentions MCP, or its README contains a real MCP client config. Archived repositories and “awesome” lists are excluded. General tools that merely carry the topic tag are removed.
How servers are ranked and categorised
Lists are ordered by GitHub stars. Official reference servers are shown first and labelled “Official” instead of borrowing the stars of their shared repository. Categories are assigned automatically from keywords in the name, description and topics, so occasional misfiles happen.
What we never do
- We never invent servers, install commands or features. Install configs and summaries are copied from the README and labelled as such.
- We do not run the servers ourselves; listing is not a security review. Read our security checklist.
- We do not use cookies or store personal data. A privacy-friendly counter records page, day, country and referring site only.
Updates
